Five top tips to starting a successful business by Richard Branson

Five top tips to starting a successful business | LinkedIn: " . . . how to simply start a successful business. Here are five top tips I’ve picked up over the years.   1. Listen more than you talk We have two ears and one mouth, using them in proportion is not a bad idea! To be a good leader you have to be a great listener. Brilliant ideas can spring from the most unlikely places, so you should always keep your ears open for some shrewd advice. This can mean following online comments as closely as board meeting notes, or asking the frontline staff for their opinions as often as the CEOs. Get out there, listen to people, draw people out and learn from them.   2. Keep it simple . . . .3. Take pride in your work . . . 4. Have fun, success will follow . . . 5. Rip it up and start again . . . ."

Hacking the Funnel

Hacking the funnel from toddwyder - talk at the Chicago Lean Startup Circle.

A Makeover Made in Google's Image

Borrowing from Google, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Begins Makeover - WSJ.com: "Ms. Mayer recently halted a plan by Mr. Levinsohn to potentially unload some of its advertising-technology assets, people with direct knowledge of the matter said. She is considering ways for Yahoo to make some investments in ad technology to better compete in that market, which is dominated by Google and others. Ms. Mayer also has expressed some interest in a onetime plan by Yahoo to get more of its content and advertising on other websites, a strategy known internally as "Play the Web," according to one person briefed on the matter. The plan involved launching a network that helps websites publishers such as entertainment sites and popular blogs to install new Yahoo software on their pages in order to show articles and videos tailored to visitors' personal interests, known as "content personalization." It is unclear whether Ms. Mayer plans to revive specific aspects of the initiative."
